Access4Bikes Foundation is becoming Marin Trail Stewards

New Name Reflects Expanded Mission of Equity, Sustainability, and Inclusive Trail Access in Marin County

Fairfax, CA — The Access4Bikes Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit rooted in Marin County’s trail advocacy movement, is proud to announce that this fall, the organization will adopt its new name: Marin Trail Stewards. This change marks a pivotal moment in the organization’s growth—from a focused mountain biking advocacy group to a broader community nonprofit committed to inclusive access, environmental sustainability, and long-term stewardship of Marin’s trail systems for bikers and hikers alike.

While the foundation’s name is changing, its passion for mountain biking remains central. Marin Trail Stewards (MTS) will continue to fundraise through beloved events like Marinduro, Solstice on Solstice, and Biketoberfest, while expanding its focus on equity in trail access across Marin County.

“We’re not losing our mountain biking identity—we’re building on it,” said Vernon Huffman, Executive Director of Marin Trail Stewards. “This name reflects who we’ve become: a community of trail users who care deeply about access, sustainability, and the land itself. We’re here to steward—not just advocate.”

The name change also clarifies the distinction between the nonprofit and its political sibling. The Access4Bikes Votes 527 political organization will continue to operate under the A4B name, focusing on electoral advocacy and policy reform. Marin Trail Stewards, meanwhile, will concentrate on stewardship, community events, and inclusive programming.

“This is about maturity and mission,” said Stephen McDaniel, President of the Board of Directors. “We’ve grown from a grassroots movement into a systems-level organization. Marin Trail Stewards reflects our commitment to practical stewardship, community building, and a future where everyone—regardless of background—can experience the joy and freedom of trails.”

The rebranding follows a series of successful community events, expanded partnerships, and a renewed focus on climate-forward trail-building practices. From trail work days to women’s clinics, Marin Trail Stewards is shaping a more inclusive and resilient outdoor culture in Marin.
